Kommentare/ Inhalte:
This course treats different aspects of dynamical systems, mainly (but not exclusively) focusing on the case of continuous time, i.e. systems generated by differential equations.

Previous participation in the course on ordinary differential equations and dynamical systems (65-071) is certainly helpful, but not necessary.

Topics will be selected from following, which can be adjusted based on the participant's interests:


  • existence and smoothness of invariant manifolds (stable, unstable, center)
  • normal forms and local bifurcations
  • global bifurcations (homoclinic/heteroclinic)
  • equivariant systems
  • singular perturbations
  • topological dynamics, attractors, chaos
  • differential equations on manifolds, geodesic flows

Additional information:

  • exercise classes require regular and active participation
  • exercises should be handed in by fixed teams of two persons
  • necessary conditions for participating in the exam:

    • presenting twice at the blackboard during the exercise classes
    • reaching at least 50% of the total points on exercise sheets 1-6 and 7-12, respectively

  • assessment will be through oral examinations

Please also note:

  • this course may be taught in GERMAN or ENGLISH, depending on the preference of the participants
  • the hours of the exercise classes could potentially be changed to minimize scheduling conflicts with other courses for the participants
