Comments/contents:
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an imaging methods that is able to acquire cross-sectional images of the human body non-invasively. It does not use ionizing radiation and has become an important tool in clinical diagnostics and biomedical research. A particular advantage of MRI is that many physiological and tissue properties influence the measured signal and can be investigated with specific acquisition methods to derive important information about the anatomy, physiology, and function of organs, detect and distinguish pathologic changes, and characterize the composition and structure of the tissue.

In this seminar, we will have a closer look at some of the topics of the lecture given in the winter semester, e.g. sparial encoding wil RF coil arrays (parallel imaging), the importance of the signal- and contrast-to-noise ratio and factors and parameters affecting them, or the estimation of the volume of the myelin layer around axons.

Requirement: bachelor
Recommended prerequisites: participation of the lecture in winter semester

Learning objectives:
Deepening knowledge on MRI and biophysical modelling

Additional examination information:
test
- a 20-30min presentation with commented handouts (graded)
- regular, active participation (ungraded)
