More information:
This course will introduce you to the essentials of effective scientific writing, providing participants the opportunity to become more effective (scientific) writers. This will, for example, include analyzing the structure and register of various texts (in their own fields of study), before practicing their own writing, utilizing their newly acquired knowledge. This class will involve a combination of lecture, discussion, in-class activities, as well as pair and group work. A broader range of topics will be covered with an emphasis on science.
Enrollment requirements:
Proof of appropriate language level (minimum B2 for B2 courses, C1 for C1 courses), not older than three years.
This can be achieved by:
Taking our online placement test (link)
Submitting a language certificate from a course at the appropriate level (see website for accepted certificates).
Sending us a copy of the Transcript of Records from STiNE showing completion of a course at the appropriate level.
After sending us the required documents you can then go ahead and register for the respective course(s).
Registrations without proof of the appropriate placement test or certificate will be cancelled.
N.B. If you have already had your level assessed by us in the last three years or have already presented us with a certificate then you do not need to prove your level again.
Learning objectives:
By the end of the course, participants should have improved and broadened their scientific language writing skills, being able to write about scientific contents in a manner that is linguistically and rhetorically sound.
Literature:
Personalized material will be provided by the instructor digitally. Also, any additional required course material will be addressed on the first day of class.
