The aim of this course is to support PhD students in their written English skills. Students will receive feedback on a preliminary writing task to detect individual writing needs. By the end of the course, students should be able to successfully edit their writing and gain the confidence to write academic texts in their field. Students will submit a final paper with a maximum of 8 pages. This paper will be proofread and receive detailed feedback from the course instructor.

Learning objectives:
Challenging writing issues will be addressed including the tenses most often used in academic writing, relative clauses, avoiding ambiguity, sentence length, paraphrasing and academic word choice. Individual writing needs based on student writing samples will be addressed.
Additional examination information:
Students will submit a two page paper based on a writing topic provided in class and a maximum of eight pages of a journal article or other writing assignment they are currently working on. The final paper is due two-four weeks after the last session.
