Comments/contents:
Germany - like most other countries in Europe and worldwide - is in the process of structural change towards an economy that is at least to some extent "greener". Even if it can be questioned whether its scope is sufficient to adequately address the climate crisis, the structural change brings with it extensive changes that are felt by many citizens: the labour market is changing, energy prices are rising, mobility and housing are facing new challenges. This brings new social risks (e.g. job loss, energy poverty, pension gaps) as well as new social inequalities.
The seminar addresses these social risks and inequalities that arise in the context of ecological structural change and looks at the role of social policy. In the first block of the course, the basics of social policy research and the connections between social policy and ecological structural change will be elaborated. The second block deals with new social risks and inequalities; in a third block, attitudes in the population and social polarisation are examined against the background of these risks and inequalities. The last two sessions of the semester are reserved for student presentations in the sense of a colloquium: here, the students present the elaboration of topics they have chosen themselves and receive feedback from the group as well as from the lecturer, which can then be incorporated into the written elaboration.
