The lecture "Legal Psychology" serves as an introduction to the field of legal psychology and is aimed at students of law.

After a short overview of the subject of the lecture and some historical sources of legal psychology, psychological processes will be discussed that occur in the context of fact-finding as well as legal consequence determination, which can influence them and whose knowledge should therefore also be relevant for lawyers. This includes in particular phenomena from the areas of perception and memory.

One focus is on witness psychology and the reconstruction of facts in the context of criminal proceedings. Furthermore, the activities of psychologists as expert witnesses in the context of criminal proceedings will also be addressed, especially in connection with credibility expert opinions, culpability expert opinions and prognosis expert opinions.

The lecture will be held in German - and as far as the situation allows - in presence.
 

Learning objectives:
The learning objective is to familiarize you, as prospective lawyers, with psychological processes surrounding criminal proceedings and to give you an insight into the work of expert witnesses in this field, whose opinions you may need to read, understand and evaluate in subsequent proceedings.
