Comments/contents: Martin Buber wrote that the word "God" was the most burdened of all human words: "None has been so defiled, so torn to shreds. For this very reason I must not renounce it. Generations of men have rolled the burden of their frightened lives on this word and stamped it to the ground; it lies in the dust and bears the burden of all of them ... Where could I find a word that resembled it to designate the highest! ... We have to respect those who frown upon it because they rebel against the injustice and mischief that so readily invoke the authorization of ‘God’." How can we speak of God authentically, reflectively and responsibly in the 21st century? The lecture follows the philosophical, biblical and dogma-historical development of Christian faith in God and deals with critical questions and current challenges.
