Comments/contents:
The course provides a comprehensive overview of the essential theoretical foundations of business ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR) and also establishes examples of practical application. At the beginning of the lecture, the necessity of dealing with the topic of economic ethics and CSR is first discussed. Challenges for economic ethics and CSR arising from current developments such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine or through digitalization will be addressed. Subsequently, important theoretical foundations of economic ethics and CSR are presented in detail. Specifically, the fundamental relationship between economics and ethics is discussed, essential terms are defined, and a distinction is made between individual, economic and corporate ethics. Based on this, special problems of economic ethics and CSR in the international context are explained. In the next step, various approaches to economic ethics and CSR are presented and critically discussed. The aim is to understand the special features of the approaches and to work out their differences. Economic ethics and CSR remain inconsequential if their insights are not applied in practice. Accordingly, the lecture subsequently focuses on the discussion of selected approaches to the concrete implementation of economic ethics and CSR in international companies.
