Comments/contents:
The lectures on Institutional Economics aim to teach the basics of the economic analysis of law and institutions. That refers to their origin, their mode of operation and the question, how we reach efficient and incentive compatible results by the help of rules and institutions. The lecture makes use of ideas of the New Political Economy, the Economic Analysis of Law and Transaction Cost Economics. They all together form what here is called Instutional Economics. The basic literature stems from F. A. v. Hayek, James M. Buchanan and O. E. Wiilliamson. The lecture uses heavily game theoretic methods.
The lecture on Institutional Economics I starts with the theory of anarchy and is focused to the basic law and the state as its guardian in his double function as protective state and as productive state. Doing so, the lecture on Institutional Economics I deals somehow with the so called "exterior institutions".
In order to get a full view on the questions related to Institutional Economics it is strongly recommended to visit also the lecture on Institutional Economics II.
