Comments/contents:
Tamil is a Dravidian language that has been in use for the past two thousand years at least, and is the second classical language in India after Sanskrit. It is spoken in the Indian states of Tamilnadu and Pondicherry, parts of Srilanka and Singapore (where it is an official language), but also in Malaysia, Mauritius and among the diaspora in Canada, the USA, etc. Tamil is diglossic, meaning, people speak and write the language differently. I this one-year course, we will learn to read Tamil literature, beginning with accessible, contemporary prose, and progressively moving to more challenging literature, like poems from the first millennium. Although the focus will be on literary Tamil, parallels between literary and spoken Tamils will be discussed systematically. Although anyone can join this class, those who do are requested to learn the script over the summer, before class begins.
Additional examination information:
and to registrations in STiNE
-For BA students, registration is mandatory: You must register for the course in STiNE in order to be eligible to participate and take exams.
-The lecturers enter the evaluations/grades in STiNE themselves. Only then are the grades/evaluations visible to students in Leistungskonto/Teilleistungen!
-If you miss a grade/assessment in STiNE or there is an incorrect entry, then you must contact the lecturer(s) and ask for the grade/assessment to be entered.
-If you receive certificates, these do not replace the entry of the grades/assessments by the lecturers STiNE (they must still enter the grades/assessments in STiNE).
-The examination department does not enter any grades in STiNE (exception: external achievements from other universities, which are recognized).
-Only if grades/assessments are entered in STiNE, the examination department can create Transcript of Records (grade sheet) and/or certificates for you.
-The AAI Office of Student Affairs will be happy to answer any questions you may have: http://www.aai.uni-hamburg.de/Studienbuero.html
