More information:
This course aims to improve students’ English vocabulary and speaking skills in a unique way: through a discussion of the lyrics, plots, historical settings, and cultural significance of the English-language musical theater. Each week we focus on new song lyrics, using group exercises designed to help students learn and retain a wealth of new words. Students are also asked to discuss questions meant to enable them to make a personal connection with the music, or to develop their opinions on character motivations or controversies within the cultural context of the song or musical. Engaging performances of each week’s music are presented via YouTube.

Enrollment requirements:

Proof of appropriate language level (minimum B2 for B2 courses, C1 for C1 courses), not older than three years.

This can be achieved by:

Taking our online placement test (link)

Submitting a language certificate from a course at the appropriate level (see website for accepted certificates).

Sending us a copy of the Transcript of Records from STiNE showing completion of a course at the appropriate level.

After sending us the required documents you can then go ahead and register for the respective course(s).

Registrations without proof of the appropriate placement test or certificate will be cancelled.

N.B. If you have already had your level assessed by us in the last three years or have already presented us with a certificate then you do not need to prove your level again.

Learning objectives:
Students should finish the course feeling comfortable using a significant number of new words and phrases in English. They should also feel more confident speaking on a raft of complex emotional, motivational, psychological, political, and historical topics; practice in listening to and commenting on opinions among class members is paramount.
