Comments/contents:
The concept of resilience has been applied to a wide range of contexts: examples are regional development, disasters, urban transport and climate change. Correspondingly, a variety of methods have been employed to analyse resilience, ranging from Resilience Index to ethnographic and geospatial methods. In this course we will review the methods used in literature to assess resilience and we will discuss their conceptual presumption and empirical  repercussions. At the beginning of the course, the students will be able to choose their topic of interest within the context of resilience.

PLEASE NOTE: The course will start on the 12th April

Learning objectives:
To familiarize with the concept of resilience and to apply it to a specific topic and regional context. To develop a critical approach to resilience literature and the methods applied. At the end of the course, the students will be able to design a “ resilience research project” and reflect upon the project´s conceptual assumptions and methodological and empirical limitations.

Additional examination information:
Requirements to pass:

1)    Group paper discussion 2) Design of a research plan incorporating lessons learned from the course.
