The course will cover the following content related to European Economic Policy:

5.            Prerequisites of EMU – theory of Optimum Currency Areas
6.            The role of the ECB and the Euro
7.            Fiscal Policy and the Stability and Growth Pact

9.            Education and Innovation Policies
10.          Labour Market and Social Policies
 
V.            The Eurozone Crisis and completing EMU
11.          The Eurozone Crisis – Causes, Consequences and Challenges

Didactic concept:

Organization:

The course is divided into 2 parts. 

Part 1:  Lecture on a specific issue of European Economic Policy by PD Dr. Roth (from 16:15-17:45);

Part 2:  Presentation of essays by students + discussion (from 18:00-18:45). 

Dates & Deadlines:

Essay topics are outlined and preferences discussed during the first class of the course on the 4. April 2022.

Final decision about student’s essay topics will be presented during the 2nd class of the course on the 11. April 2022.

From 3rd class onwards, from 25. April 2022 onwards, students will hand-in and present their essays.


Prerequisites:

It is expected that course participants wear FFP2 masks.

Additional examination information:
Course Requirements:

To acquire 6 credit points, students will first have to send in a short essay via Email on the morning of their presentation day until 10 am and second complete a final exam (or "Take-Home" Exam) at the end of July 2022 (1st Exam) or end of September 2022 (2nd Exam).

Short essay:

The short essay should have the length of 1500-2000 Words. It is to be handed in on Monday morning until 10 am of the day of the PPP presentation.  Passing the short essay will enable the participants to take the final exam (or "Take-Home" Exam).

Presentation of Work:

The presentation of students work will be app. 10 minutes with 5 minutes discussion. Student’s presentations should be based on the software Power Point (or similar).

Final Exam:

The final Exam (or "Take-Home" exam) will consist of various questions concerning the overall content of the course. The exam will be 90 minutes long (or "Take-Home" Exam will be 90 (+15) minutes long) and will take place at the end of July 2022 (1st Exam) or end of September 2022 (2nd Exam). The exact dates will still be announced during the first the lecture.
