Heresy and sectarianism in Jewish context are understood in various ways; from denying the authority of God in the biblical text to denying the authority of the Rabbis in later Jewish history, this lecture series aims at tracing how the concepts “heresy” and “sectarianism” were perceived in Jewish history, messianism, biblical exegesis, and thought. The invited distinguished lecturers will focus each according to her/his expertise on different aspects of figures in Jewish history seeking to discuss what heterodoxy is in its broader context.
