Comments/contents:
1) Qualification purpose: The introduction to economic and social history gives basic historical knowledge that enables students to understand larger (problem) correlations in the development of modern society and social change.

2) Contents: The lecture gives a general historical overview of the last 250 years with special consideration of developments in Germany. Economic, political and social modernization processes with their multi-layered positive and negative consequences are examined.

 The profound economic, political and socio-cultural change from the 19th to the 21st century is thematized chronologically on a timeline. The introduction begins with the upheavals caused by the French Revolution and industrialization and ends with the discussion of the idea of ??a new geological age, the “Anthropocene”.

Included are

a) Influencing factors, side effects and consequences of the transition from an agrarian to an industrial society,

b) political, economic and social events and processes in the "long 19th century"

c) as well as historical upheavals in the 20th century up to the present.

d) Economic and social history is interdisciplinary - that is why various methods and approaches are presented and work areas and research topics are addressed.

Didactic concept:
Lecture and  discussion. Some texts are provided. Smaller work tasks can be done as group work during the course
