A zoom event will take place on Monday, November 2nd, 2020 at 1 p.m. to introduce the semester. Course participants can find access and further information under "Material" below.

The course takes place asynchronously: all videos and documents are permanently available on www.openolat.de. There is also an open consultation hour as a voluntary additional offer:

                                     Mondays at 1 p.m.

I will solve one of the exercises live: if you do not want to attend the office hours, you have the solution available. Afterwards you can ask questions about all videos / exercises / organization, the questions do not have to be limited to the respective week.

Please note: You have 6 SWS per week Statistics (exception old examination regulations).

The basic statistics module consists of the courses Statistics 1 (4 SWS) and Statistics 2 (2 SWS). The contents build on each other. The contents (6 SWS) are examined in an exam.
The courses run one after the other: first statistics 1 over the first 2/3 of the semester with 6 hours per week (2/3 * 6 = 4), then statistics 2 over the last 1/3 of the semester with 6 hours per week (1/3 * 6 = 2).
This course is offered in 2 "Zug" = at 2 different time windows. Select Zug A or Zug B depending on your time preference.
If you have already been registered for Statistics 1 in the past, you can only register for Statistics 2. This is due to technical reasons (Stine-specific). Then sign up for statistic 2 only. You then write the exam like everyone else.

Learning objectives:
The students

• can apply basic methods of descriptive statistics and transfer them to topics of sociology and economics.
  
• are able to use the methods.
  
• understand how probabilities are determined and when they are only approximate.
  
• are able to calculate probabilities for random variables.
  
• can recognize special distributions and are able to use them.
  

Didactic concept:
In instructional videos, topics are worked out on the tablet, especially by hand, and the students are often asked to pause the video. This enables the students to individually develop, understand, write down and collaborate on each topic. The videos can be played faster, slower or repeatedly in OpenOlat if required. Numerous exercises with detailed sample solutions then enable the students to apply the knowledge you have gained. At the end of the week, voluntary online MC self-tests provide an overview of the content and your own level of knowledge with a playful character. The asynchronous content is supplemented by Zoom consultation hours for questions several times a week.

Additional examination information:
Module examination together with Statistics 2 in the form of an exam! This means that there is no "individual test" for statistic 1 (as well as for statistic 2). These two subjects are examined together in ONE exam. (Exception old examination regulations)
Note on the aids:
- non-programmable, two-line pocket calculator
- Module examination: 12 A4 pages of handwritten notes (no computer printouts, one-sided written (or 6 A4 pages two-sided written))
- Statistics 1 (old PO): 8 A4 pages of handwritten notes (no computer printouts, one-sided written (or 4 A4 pages two-sided written))
