The ecozones are large regions of the earth, which have similar climatic characteristics (temperature, precipitation etc.) soil types, the landscapes etc (Schultz 2005). The ecozones evolved over a longer period of time and share a common evolutionary history. The vegetation types are the broad representations of the ecozones, which generally aligns with major climatic regions (Schultz 2005). The climatic conditions are main controlling factors of ecozones, which control the evolution and other characters e.g. species, growth, etc. Major ecozones of the earth are polar subpolar, boreal, temperate, mid-latitudes, dry mid-latitudes, subtropics with different patterns of rains, dry tropics, tropics with different rain patterns etc. This course will discuss land use/cover, vegetation characters, fauna, etc. in major ecozones of the world.
