Most important note: Please do all your follow students a great favor: please ONLY enroll in the class if you are seriously interested in the topic and plan to attend the course!

The seminar’s main purpose is an in-depth discussion of the ecological embeddedness of firms and the resulting consequences for financial investments. At the core we will debate how and why firms should address sustainability issues and if there is a business case in doing so.

In part one of the seminar a general introduction to course and its requirements is given and the background to the topic is introduced. Part two of the seminar is focused on the academic literature dealing with business strategy and natural environment. Each participant is asked to present an academic paper – it will be group work of two students – and lead a discussion in class.

Your active participation in the discussion in class is integral to the design of this course. The presentation and ensuing discussion serves as the basis for the grading––i.e. there is no exam/written assignment. This class is designed as an integrated whole and, thus, regular attendance is expected.
