Comments/contents: This seminar will be held in English. We will revisit the basic principles of environmental economics (environmental, natural resources and climate change economics). Particular topics will be analyzed through student presentations and discussion. Seminar methods will consist in: · Lecture blocks (uploaded on OpenOLAT) covering general topics of environmental economics. · Students’ presentations on essay topic and discussion. · Online sessions for discussion/clarifications on the lecture topics. Seminar topics include: · Normative analysis of environmental issues. · Value judgments in project appraisal. · Principles and application of cost-benefit analysis. · Market analysis of environmental issues (market failures). · Environmental regulation: instruments and their impact. · Economic instruments such as emission taxes, fees and cap-and-trade schemes. · Behavioral aspects of environmental economics. · Game theoretical analysis of externalities. · Climate change impacts and management. · International Environmental Agreements for the reduction of GHG emissions.
