A zoom event will take place on Monday, November 2nd, 2020 at 3 p.m. to introduce the semester. Event participants can find access data and further information under "Material" below.
The event takes place asynchronously: all videos and documents are permanently available on www.openolat.de. There is also an open consultation hour as a voluntary additional offer:
Mondays 3 p.m.
I will solve one of the exercises live: if you do not want to attend the office hours, you have the solution available. Afterwards you can ask questions about all videos / exercises / organization, the questions do not have to be limited to the respective week.
Content
- Special test problems: two-sample case
- Simple regression analysis
- Estimate, significance
- Variable transformation
- Multiple regression analysis
- Estimate, significance
- Interactions
- Qualitative characteristics: binary variables
- Linear probability model
- Causal effects: experiments, differences-in-differences
- Interpretation in scientific publications
Learning objectives:
The students
- understand basic methods of regression analysis, can apply them for their own empirical studies and transfer them to topics of sociology and economics.
- are able to study the specialist literature independently by developing the terminology and to professionally and critically interpret research results with regard to the methods used and their assumptions.
Didactic concept:
In instructional videos, topics are worked out on the tablet, especially by hand, and the students are often asked to pause the video. This enables the students to individually develop, understand, write down and collaborate on each topic. The videos can be played faster, slower or repeatedly in OpenOlat if required. Numerous exercises with detailed sample solutions then enable the students to apply the knowledge you have gained. At the end of the week, voluntary online MC self-tests provide an overview of the content and your own level of knowledge with a playful character. The asynchronous content is supplemented by Zoom consultation hours for questions several times a week.
