Comments/contents:
„Common Study Sessions“ are three to five day student conferences that take place twice a year (once per semester) at one of our partner universities within the Sokrates program on „criminal justice and critical criminology“.
The Spring Common Study Session 2021 might be taking place in Budapest, but this is because of the COVID 19 shifts and precautions not clear yet or even feasible. The date and place will be announced in the very late fall – and will probably taking place in late april or the beginning of may.
In preparation for the next common session, the course has the following features:
It will provide students with an introduction to the Common Study Session in general and to the chosen theme of the upcoming Session in particular. In-depth discussion of the chosen theme are central as well as the collecting ideas for paper presentations and the work on developing a well-structured and ambitious paper that is suitable for presentation at this international conference. Also important features of the course are the work on good presentation style, i.e. expression, language, use of visual data, etc., and the rehearsal of the students’ presentations before the conference.
The course will prepare you for your presentation but also focus on the topic of the CS, so that those who are solely attending the CS without a presentation are also invited to join.
Learning objectives:
- Enhanced knowledge of comparative criminological research and international criminal justice policies as well as their special national features.
- Ability to present a criminological topic at an international students conference and take an active part in the debates at those conferences – both in a foreign language. (English)
Didactic concept:
We will engage in an in-depth discussion of the chosen theme, brainstorm ideas for paper presentations and work on developing a well-structured and ambitious paper that is suitable for presentation at an international conference. We will also work on good presentation style, i.e. expression, language, use of visual data, etc., and rehearse the students’ presentations before the conference.
This course is also open to students who do not want to give presentations at the conference but are interested in the theme of the conference, since this course not only focuses on preparing students for their presentations, but also engages thoroughly with the topic of the Common Session.
There is going to be course plattform (on OLAT) which we will use for the course as well as Zoom meetings for the online meetings.
Literature:
literature will be announced throughout the course according to the topic of the common session
Additional examination information:
