Comments/contents:
During the summer semester 2019, I will offer a „seminar“ on the topic of “Law, Economics, and Technology”. This seminar is primarily intended for students enrolled in elective VI “law & economics”, but is open to all other students too. The objective of the seminar is to discuss the increasing role of technology and digitalisation on our business life from a law & economics perspective.

The seminar will be held in June 2019 as a blocked event (i.e. during one or two days). The exact date and time will be fixed later. If you want to receive a “Seminarschein”, you will have to write a “Seminararbeit” (a ca 20 pages essay on a given topic) and present it to the group. Applications may be made directly to Professor Georg Ringe (georg.ringe@uni-hamburg.de). Please contact me also in case you have any questions or queries. When applying, please mention three different topics that you would prefer. Please also note the degree you take and the number of semesters you have taken. Deadline for applications is 31 March 2019.

I will introduce the general theme and allocate final topics to the participants on 8 April 2019 between 6-7pm. You will then be asked to submit an abstract until the end of May. The final Seminararbeit may be submitted until the end of the summer semester.

Please find a list of topics below. The list is not exhaustive; additional suggestions and ideas are welcome.

1 Law, Economics and Algorithms – how will algorithmic players change the way law and economic models are applied?

2 Blockchain/DLT and international commercial contracts

3 Smart contracts

4 Tort law and autonomous machines
