In the Master project the practice-oriented proficiency with established methods of Digital Image Processing and Analysis (DIP/A) will be trained. In order to develop efficient solutions for real-world applications, the project work draws upon known and field-tested software libraries (e.g. OpenCV and VIGRA). In the first part of the project, the programming language C++ (with recent upgradings) will be introduced while in parallel practical knowledge of Digital Image Processing/Analysis will be acquired and basic experimental work with image data will be carried out.
As source image data, primarily digitized manuscripts from interdisciplinary manuscript research will be used (see https://www.manuscript-cultures.uni-hamburg.de/Projekte_p2_e.html for details).
Learning objectives:
- Functional and generic design of algorithms for Digital Image Processing/Analysis (with C++ implementation)
- Software design and application of complex libraries such as OpenCV and VIGRA
- Object-oriented and cross-system design of interactive graphical user interfaces
- Training of team work
Didactic concept:
- Learning of elementary C++ skills
- Design/selection of a variety of DIP/A methods via team work
- Design of a flexible framework for integration of different DIP/A methods
