Comments/contents:
This seminar examines Jewish and Christian theological and philosophical themes as perceived by Jewish converts to Christianity in the Middle Ages. We will begin with The Disputation of Barcelona (1263), between the friar convert Pablo Christiani and Rabbi Moses ben Na?man (Nachmanides). We will further examine the attacks on Judaism by the convert Alfonso of Valladolid (Abner of Burgos) and the Jewish responses to these attacks by Moses Narboni, Isaac Albalag, and Isaac Polqar.
