Comments/contents:
The earth’s climate has experienced unusual warming over the past century. The surface temperature increased by 0.85°C during the period of 1880-2012. (IPCC, 2013). As per model results the temperature is expected to rise in this century. It has led to recession of glaciers and ice sheets across the globe. Further there are spatial variations in glacier response to regional climate changes. The permafrost and glacial forefields have also experienced changes such as slope failures, GLOFs etc. This course discuss the evolution of glaciers, geometry, types, world distribution, associated landscapes and geomorphological features, glacier dynamics in relation to the climate change, their regional response and trend in glacier studies.
