The aim of this seminar course is to introduce the different ecozones of the world with respect to climate, relief, soil, vegetation, drainage and land use. The main focus of the seminar content is to study soil, relief and drainage characteristics of all the ecozones. The land use change impacts, consequences and management will also be the focus of the seminar with respect to the regional examples.
Overall Approach of the Seminar Course: The aim of the course is to explore the subject of soil and relief under the scope of Ecozones. Students will be able to visit some of the concepts of soil and relief within the nine Ecozones proposed by J. Schultz (2015) having a more Global perspective of those subjects. Moreover, students will have the chance to explore such topics with a more scientific approach to it, which will help them to collect academic experiences in the University. Principles on good presentation skills, correct citation, and the ethics of academic work will be prompt to them.
Program schedule: The whole Seminar Course is constituted of 14 sessions. The first 2 sessions are introductory to the overall theme of the course. The following 12 sessions are the seminar-courses with the presentations. Each session will be separated in two parts, each of them being 40 min long in duration separated by 10 min break in between.
Seminar Topics: The seminar topics will be distributed according to the number of students enrolled in the course. There are priority topics which will be covered in the seminar course, regardless of the number of students, and topics that will be added in accordance to the final number of students in the course. A list of all topics is attached to this detailed program.
Learning objectives:
The learning objective of the seminar course is the elaboration of basic aspects of soil, relief and drainage of the world’s ecozones to be communicated in English. Principles on good presentation skills, correct citation, and the ethics of academic work will be prompt to them.

Additional examination information:
Examination Process: The examination process will consists of 1 Oral Presentation (Referat) of 20 to 25 min long + Essay (Hausarbeit) of 10 to 12 pages long + Attendance to the Excursion. Participation in the seminar’s discussion will be also considered an asset to improve student’s grade.
