Learning objectives:
The objectives of the course are gaining:
- insights into various research domains of South Asian and Tibetan studies;
- knowledge of theoretical frameworks and research methods applied in area, cultural,
sociological and linguistic studies as well as in hermeneutics;
- ability to formulate research questions, work out, prove and falsify hypotheses;
- proficiency in data analysis and application of research methods.
The course includes lectures of renowned scholars in the fields of South Asian and Tibetan studies as well as oral presentations of the students. Each of the students is required to give a presentation (25 to 30 minutes) on a subject of her/his choice, which should be approved by the supervisor. It is advisable that it be related to the topic of the future M.A. thesis of the student. Both lectures and students' presentations are followed by general discussions.
Students in the second semester of their MA studies may, if approved by the supervisor, moderate one of the classes.
The course is graded in each semester on the basis of oral presentations.
