Comments/contents:
The discussion about the role and influence of digital communication on political processes and democratic societies remains virulent in 2019. It is not just the debate surrounding the so-called Rezo video that is putting pressure on parties and institutions. In the face of a fragmented public, fundamental questions arise about how opinion emerges, is made and received.
The changing media-system and the growing influence of technological progress in the realm of communications and digitalization demands contemporary answers from policy-makers. The answers to questions that arise under the influence of digitalization will shape the future of democratic societies: How does a digital civil dialogue succeed at eye level? How does the climate of debate and opinion change under the influence of an algorithmized public? And how is a political preference created under the influence of the above factors? These and other questions will be dealt with in the second edition of the lecture series "Digitization of Democracy".
Learning objectives:
Examination of current politically relevant debates
Independent reflection of current problems in the context of digitization
Applying previously acquired political science knowledge to current issues
Didactic concept:
A detailed overview on topics and speakers will be given shortly.
Literature:
To prepare for the lecture series, it is advisable to read the daily press attentively on media policy topics.
