Comments/contents:
The exercise 'Introduction to GIS' (GIS I) covers the basics of geodata collection, management, analysis and presentation using the standard GIS software ArcGIS. To complement and deepen the theoretical foundations presented in the reading lecture 'Cartography & GIS', the following main topics are introduced:
• cartographic illustration
• coordinate systems and projection
• digitizing and editing spatial data
• spatial analysis
• digital terrain analysis and remote sensing
Learning objectives:
With the growing use of computers and digital data, the conceptual possibilities and modes of working in research as well as the teaching of geography in school have steadily expanded. Against this background, this course is intended to enable the independent selection and application of elementary GIS-based methods for spatial data analysis and modeling.
Didactic concept:
In order to deepen the theoretical foundations, students should attend the reading lecture 'Cartography & GIS'. With regard to a practical presentation of geoinformatical methods, the course introduces concrete processing and calculation steps using the software ArcGIS.
Literature:
Basic and further literature will be announced in the course.
Additional examination information:
The proof of performance is provided by the independent production of computer maps. These can be counted as cartographic work in the different teacher training courses at the same time.
