Kommentare/ Inhalte: This lecture gives students a broad overview of the history of British literature, ranging all the way from its beginnings in the Anglo-Saxon period to the twenty-first century. Each lecture will be devoted to a distinct literary period and its major developments and genres, which will be placed in their wider cultural and historical contexts. Furthermore, every lecture will feature concise readings of pertinent works and their authors, highlighting continuities across and differences between literary epochs. By the end of this lecture, you will be familiar with the basic concepts and texts associated with the Middle Ages, the Early Modern period, the Restauration and eighteenth century, Romanticism, Victorianism, Modernism, and contemporary and postcolonial literature.
