Kommentare/ Inhalte: This module provides an overview of quantitative empirical research methods, specifically in the fields of accounting and finance (adjacent topics such as sustainability or management are also possible). The main goal of the course is the planning and execution of an empirical study. We will individually assess students’ interests in order to collaboratively find topics and assess them regarding their feasibility. During the semester, we will discuss obstacles and how to overcome them. Depending on the group size, students will either work in teams or alone.
Vorgehen: At the beginning of the module, an introduction to econometric procedures and the use of the statistics software STATA will be provided, equipping students with the necessary tools for their research work. We will also provide guidance on how to write an empirical paper. The results will be presented in a conference like setting with a discussant. In this process, participants are expected to gain practical experience in data management and the application of empirical research methods. This module is a good preparation for an empirical master thesis, but also useful for critically evaluating the scientific work of other researchers. The classes will be held in person or virtual.
Zusätzliche Hinweise zu Prüfungen: The evaluation includes two presentations and a written report. Students are required to compile a preliminary report on their research findings and methods, which they will use to create a presentation. This presentation will be graded.

A unique aspect of this assessment is the inclusion of a peer-review system. Each student/group will be paired with a discussant (another student/group), who will be responsible for reviewing the written report in advance and providing constructive feedback following the presentation. This session aims to foster a collaborative learning environment and critical thinking. The quality of the discussion will be graded.

Finally, students will have the opportunity to refine their reports based on the feedback received and submit their revised document for final evaluation.
