Kommentare/ Inhalte: The seminar addresses the latest trend in sustainable finance: Impact Investing (II). First, it gives an overview of the conceptual categories underlying the term “impact investing” in the academic literature as well as in the practitioners’ literature. Second, it highlights the main characteristics of impact investing in fields as diverse as social entrepreneurship, microcredit, venture philanthropy, ethical investments, social finance, green finance, and development finance. Finally, it explores the state of impact measurement practices both from a company perspective as well as from an investor perspective.
Lernziel: After completing the course, students will: 1) have acquired a good knowledge of (a) the different conceptual categories existing in the field of Impact Investing (II), (b) the place and evolution of the field in conventional finance and in sustainable finance, and (c) the challenges facing the II field in academia and in practice 2) be able to analyse the literature on impact investing (II), and have a critical view on the characteristics required for an investment to qualify as II.
Vorgehen: This seminar is interactive. Students are expected to read a selection of academic papers, reflect on these papers, prepare presentations based on these articles, develop questions for discussions, and actively participate in these discussions.
Literatur: The literature on impact investing will be distributed and analyzed during the course.
Zusätzliche Hinweise zu Prüfungen: There will be no written exam. The grade of the Seminar will be based on the presentation and the ensuing group discussion.
