Kommentare/ Inhalte: Sustainable Island – Imagine you are in charge for a tiny island in the North Sea, that is a World Heritage and the main source of income is tourism. Our task is to develop a sustainability concept for this island that is manifold. While doing so we focus for example on circular economy, transportation, tourism, energy supply, biodiversity issues as well as social issues like payable housing for seasonal workers as well as education. We will derive the sustainability concept for the island from theory and practice. The seminar will be structured in two parts. Part one will be “onshore” at the University of Hamburg and we will give you an introduction what already exists on the island, what are current developments and what are the goals of the island community. You have to read through current literature in this area and develop ideas how to run the process with the community on the island. Part two will be “offshore” on the island for 6 days. We will be on the island, talk with people in charge for the sustainability concept, with the community, etc. and test if our ideas can be turned into practice. Exam: Term paper of the ideas and respectively the sustainability concept for one of the potential areas e.g. circular economy or preservation/enhancing of biodiversity.
