There have been settlements in Istanbul for 8000 years. The city became the capital of the Roman Empire in the 4th century AD. Construction activities have been intensively continued since the Ancient Period; therefore, it is difficult to understand the topography and location of the architectural structures of Byzantion. The aim of the lecture is to investigate the urbanization of an ancient Greek polis in the case of ancient Istanbul by comparing the ancient sources with the ongoing archaeological excavations.

Anforderungen:
The language of the seminar will be English. Literature reading should be done in accordance with the week’s subject. Please note that presentations should also be in English, Hausarbeit could be written in German.

4 LP: 25 min. Presentation + Hausearbeit (ca. 3500 words)

5 LP: 30 min. Presentation + Hausarbeit (ca. 4000 words)

7 LP: 35 min. Presentation + Hausarbeit (ca. 4500 words)
