Kommentare/ Inhalte: 'Common Study Sessions' are three to five day student conferences that take place twice a year (once per semester) at one of our partner universities within the Sokrates program on 'criminal justice and critical criminology'. This years Common Session will take place in Hamburg from 15 May to 17 May 2023. 

This course will provide students with an introduction to the Common Study Session in general and to the chosen theme of the respective Common Session in particular.

Since this Common Session will take place here in Hamburg, participants of the Preparation Course will also be asked to provide some assistance for the organization and execution of the conference. This will entail smaller tasks (e.g. handing out conference badges, providing help to our guests from abroad, shifting a table or two, etc.). 

Info: This Preparation Course is for all those, who wish to participate at the conference. Those, who also intend to hold a presentation at the conference, make sure to also join the PRESENTATION COURSE on Stine. 
Lernziel: Objectives of this course:

Getting accustomed to the organization of an international academic conference

Enhanced knowledge of comparative criminological research and international criminal
justice policies as well as their special national features.

Ability to take an active part in the debates at the conference in a foreign language (English). 
Vorgehen: Proceeding:

We will engage in an in-depth discussion of the chosen theme, brainstorm ideas for paper presentations and work on developing a well-structured and ambitious paper that is suitable for presentation at an international conference. We will also work on good presentation style, i.e. expression, language, use of visual data, etc., and rehearse the students’ presentations before the conference.

This course is also open to students who do not want to give presentations at the conference but are interested in the theme of the conference, since this course not only focuses on preparing students for their presentations, but also engages thoroughly with the topic of the Common Session.

During the conference itself, participants will be asked to provide some assistance to the organizer's team and help making this a nice event for everyone
