HINWEIS FÜR HAUPTFÄCHLER/INNEN:

Drei Vertiefungsseminare werden im Rahmen des Moduls SOA-V4 im WiSe angeboten. Das Modul SOA-V4 besteht jedoch aus nur zwei Modulbausteinen (Seminar A und Seminar B).
Für eine korrekte Anmeldung in STiNE bedeutet das:
a) Pro Modulbaustein stehen bis zu 3 Seminare zur Auswahl
b) Bitte wählen Sie nur 1 Seminar pro Modulbaustein: 1 Seminar für den Modulbaustein "Seminar A" und/oder 1 Seminar für den Modulbaustein "Seminar B".

Sie können im Modul SOA-V4 insgesamt nur 2 Seminare wählen.
Wenn Sie das Modul V4 schon abgeschlossen haben, dann können Sie weitere Vertiefungsseminare über einen VM-Modul oder über den (fachspezifischen) Wahlbereich für Hauptfächler/innen wählen

The monarchy in Thailand has developed over eight centuries, from a paternalistic form of kingship during the Sukhothai period to an absolute monarchy in the era of Ayutthaya. In 1932, Thailand became a constitutional monarchy, with a Prime Minister as head of a parliamentary government and the king as the head of state and the ruling Royal House of Chakri. While the king's political role has since been formally limited to representative functions, he has repeatedly intervened in Thai politics in significant ways, especially in times of political crisis. The role of the Thai monarchy as a mediator between antagonistic interest groups in the kingdom has been subjected to political critique for quite some time. However, since the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) in 2016 and the accession of King Vajiralongkorn (Rama X), the Thai monarchy is facing a serious legitimacy crisis. More and more voices are being raised questioning the king's authority, openly criticizing the court's wealth and extravagance, the enduring presence and arbitrary use of lèse-majesté laws, and especially the problematic alliance between the crown and the military in the country.

The seminar explores the political and religious foundations of kingship in Thailand, and examines the political challenges that shaped its history from the beginnings until recent times.
Lernziel: The seminar aims at elucidating the history of Thai kingship and seeks to provide a better understanding of Thailand’s present political crisis. Students will be trained in using historical sources and introduced into the methods of research in the political, social and intellectual history of Thailand.
Vorgehen: This seminar will be conducted by ZOOM.
The lecturer will send the access data to all registered participants via their @studium.uni-hamburg.de e-mail before the start of the seminar.
