Kommentare/ Inhalte:
The seminar gives an introduction into the instutitional foundations and functioning of the European Monetary Union. We combine various theoretical perspectives from Comparative Political Economy, Macroeconomics, and Macrosociology.
Together, we address the politcal and economic challenges of macroeconomic imbalances and the possibilities to adjust. We will disucss crises and institutional developments during the long process of European integration.
Overall, we dicuss the eurocrisis of 2008-15 and its political and economic solutions from the perspective of overcoming a historical adjusment conflict. This kind of conflict has occured multiple times in postwar European history. The seminar will put a particular emphasis on the process dimension and the institutional foundations of macroeoconomic stabilization.
