Kommentare/ Inhalte: This course is open to 3 Studium Generale students, especially from "Buddhismuskunde. The majority of texts will be in English, but also texts in Thai and Lao will be used. This course is a compulsory module for Master students of Thai language and culture and can be studied by advanced Bachelor students in the Fachspezifischer Wahlbereich. The course shall provide a comprehensive overview of how modern Thai script developed since the late 13th century. Furthermore, changes in the phonetic system of the Thai language as well as changes in grammar, syntax and orthography are analysed. The influences of foreign languages (Khmer, Sanskrit, Pali or English) are also studied. Another topic is the etymology of Thai words. Lecturers: Prof. Dr. Volker Grabowsky and Peera Panarut. Biodata: Prof. Dr. Volker Grabowsky ist Professor für Sprache und Kultur Thailands (Thaiistik) seit 2009.
Lernziel: The students shall get an in-depth knowledge of the development of Thai language and script from the Sukhothai period until modern times.
