Kommentare/ Inhalte: In this course we will explore the role of memory of past extreme events and natural disasters in preparing and dealing with present and future natural disasters. In particular, we will investigate why and how certain events become part of the collective memory while others are forgotten. The questions we will address are (among others): Which are the traces of past disasters which can be found in our everyday landscape? How do different cultures maintain and mobilize the memory of disasters which occurred in the distant past? How does collective memory differ from individual memory?
Lernziel: Requirements to pass: The students of this course are required to present a case study (selected in agreement with the lecturer), to prepare a poster (group work) and to reflect upon the lessons learned during the course ( short individual essay).
