Kommentare/ Inhalte:
Climate change and human interaction with nature is one of the major research topics in today’s world: how can we handle, what should be done and especially what is the role of archaeology in this human made crisis are questions to be asked in this seminar. We will discuss the theoretical and practical implications of the concept of the Anthropocene and the role and potential of archaeology in its exploration. The main focus will be on human-environment interaction in ancient societies, how they dealt with phenomena of climate change and how all this is connected to our present. On the basis of archaeological finds, we will analyze and compare human interventions in their environments, their consequences and possible solutions. The seminar which is part of a teaching project with the National Taiwan University will be conducted in English.
For ten participants there will be the possibility to travel to our partner university in Taipei (see 56-342 EX: TAIWAN – The Archaeology of the Anthropocene) and to present and discuss their findings with students there. Participants will be elected on the basis of an evaluation of their contribution to the seminar and other skills (language skills, intercultural competence etc.). If you are interested to take part in this exciting project please send a motivation letter (ca. 500 words) to Birte Meller (birte.meller@uni-hamburg.de) and Jacobus Bracker (jacobus.bracker@uni-hamburg.de) until 1 April 2020 laying out your ideas what the role of archaeology in the Anthropocene could be.
