Kommentare/ Inhalte: Das Seminar wird unter Vorbehalt als Blockseminar am Ende der Vorlesungszeit durchgeführt. The aim of the lecture is to introduce Roman portraits and approach the contexts and backgrounds of the imperial and also the private portraits. Emperor types and propagandistic monuments will be some of the research questions of this seminar. Some case studies will be done on portraits from Roman Asia Minor and compare the differences of the emperors’ portraits between the Asia Minor cities and the city of Rome.
Lernziel: Basic knowledge of the Roman portraiture and understanding the propagandistic background reflects on the imperial art.
