Kommentare/ Inhalte:
The Web itself, as well as digital libraries and digital repositories of various kinds, has become an essential resource in education, research, and cultural heritage. Interoperability, therefore, is a crucial factor to the management of digital repositories, not only on the technical level (architecture, metadata standards, copyright) but also on the social and cultural level (language, collective memory, social attitudes, preferences and practices). In this sense, cultural interoperability implies the degree to which knowledge and information are anchored to a unified model of meaning across cultures. It also reflects the experience of change, which is a process of transformation that involves new knowledge objects, forms of alignment, and behaviours emerging on the Web.
The aim of this course is to provide an overview of cultural interoperability and its analysis in a wide range of topics concerning: linguistic and cultural diversity, cultural warrant and cultural hospitality, marginalization and exclusion as problems of lacking cultural interoperability, socio-technical aspects in the process of negotiations, and obstacles to change in organisations in the culture and heritage sector.
