Kommentare/ Inhalte: Does God Live in the City? "Faith teaches us that God lives in the city in the midst of its joys, yearnings and hopes, and likewise in its pains and suffe-ring. The shadows that mark everyday life, such as violence, poverty, individualism and exclusion cannot prevent us from seeking and contemplating the God of life also in urban envi-onments" (Aparecida, 2007, 514). In theology, the focus has moved more and more to urbanity and urbanization. Contrary to many religious-sociological predictions, modern metropolises in Europe did not become religion-free spaces. Faith and spirituality in fact have a presence in urban space, which has not been seen for a long time. Hamburg is a multicultural and secular metropolis. The purpose of the course is to discuss the sense and significance of God's presence in contemporary urban space. If God actually lives in contemporary cities, how can we honestly talk about his presence in urban environments? In what way can we seek and contemplate the God of life also in urban space? The course intends to bring students (MA and PhD) from larger cities across all of Europe together. In addition to the lectures of experts, we will discuss and trace the urban space as a potential place of God.
