Kommentare/ Inhalte: Learning processes related to increased (social) sustainability, participation, inclusion, diversity and overall for adult citizens in these troubled times is in the focus in much current Adult Education as exemplified in some current conference themes: „Adult Education and Learning Policy in a World Risk Society“ (Esrea Network on Policy studies, 2019), „Adult Education research and practice between the welfare state and neoliberalism“ (Esrea, 2019) „Adult Education for Inclusion and Diversity“ (Scutrea, 2017), „Adult Education in Austere Times“ (Scutrea, 2016). The sheer complexity of many questions related to civic participation and learning in contested and transforming urban terrains often also requires a multidisciplinary understanding, and calls for more interdisciplinary cooperation. Goal: To present some contemporary research themes in (Finnish) Adult Education and to increase understanding of the value of multidisciplinary research and education. This includes civic learning, especially connected to local-level planning processes. Aspects of learning are in this course connected to questions concerning deliberative democracy, participation, sustainability and popular culture. This course aims to include an experience of Studentlab Deliberative Walks as a central learning experience. Examples from examiner’s own research are also presented and discussed. Local case studies in a globalized world are not only of local interest, but also enhance the importance of observing and understanding the global in the local, and the local in the global. This course is partly organised in block form workshops. Modulprüfung: Klausur / written exam (may be written in either English or German) Wednesdays: 10-12. Start 23.10, 30.10, 6.11, 13.11, 20.11, 27.11, 4.12, 11.12 (written exam) Blockseminar: Friday 25.10 10-13, Friday 22.11 10-16
